Local Artist John Ross Palmer to Build Escapist Artist Gallery & Studios in Heights

Local Houston artist John Ross Palmer has launched a mammoth endeavor of construct an Escapist Artist Gallery & Studios in the Houston Heights adjacent to his current art gallery, studio and residence.  The state-of-the-art facilities will serve as the ultimate artist training ground for artists that are accepted to his prestigious Escapist Mentorship Program (EscapistProgram.com).  Founded in 2009, the program teaches artists the necessary skills on self-promotion, wise business practice and how not to just ‘survive’ as an artist—but how to thrive.

Since May of 2013, Palmer and his husband attorney Ryan Lindsay have been diligently fundraising from top Palmer Patrons—securing over $50,000 of cash-on-hand.  Top art enthusiasts have come on board to have their name emblazoned on the new gallery plus individual studios and to support Palmer’s mission to forever destroy the stereotype of the struggling artist.  On September 7, 2013, the second phase of fundraising, an online campaign via Indiegogo, will launch.  Through their “Refuse to Struggle” campaign on Indiegogo, Palmer and Lindsay will seek to raise the minimum additional $100,000 to get this empowering structure off of the ground.

Palmer elaborates, “This is a definite team effort.  My art collectors as well as the current and former Escapist Artists have stepped up in a major way to assist in fulfilling this gargantuan effort.”  Lindsay says with pride, “John dedicates hundreds of hours per year helping the Escapist artists—entirely for free.  That’s why we’re seeking community support to make this dream a reality.  But, it’s also a living example to artists.  If you work hard and use your resources, anything is attainable.”

The Escapist Gallery & Studios Indiegogo Kick-Off is from on Saturday, September 7th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the John Palmer Art Gallery & Studio, 1218 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX 77008.
