Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner Declares Day For LGBT Community To Be Honored!
HOUSTON — DEC 6 — The City of Houston announced they will honor the LGBTQ+ community by declaring Monday, December 12, 2016 as FACE Awards Day in the city and surrounding areas leading up to the evenings 5th annual award show, the states largest annual show honoring the LGBTQ+ community.
“The L.G.B.T.Q.+ community and its allies work hard in the pursuit of special causes by working hard as volunteers, passing laws as politicians or opening a new business in the community. The L.G.B.T.Q.+ community is comprised of individuals that are doing their part in Houston pursuing equality,” in part the official city proclamation reads and signed by Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner. This years award show is presented by Avenue 360 Health & Wellness, formally Houston Area Community Services and Bering Omega, and presented by Smirnoff Vodka.
“On December 12, 2016, L.G.B.T.Q.+ heroes will be honored for their dedication and commitments for the past year with the First Achievers in Community Excellence (F.A.C.E.) Awards, celebrating with the L.G.B.T.Q.+ community, its allies and the entire city of Houston,” the document continues. Over the past four years, many of Houston elected officials have supported the event including the newly elected Mayor.
“The City of Houston commends all those receiving a F.A.C.E. Award and the rest of the L.G.B.T.Q.+ community heroes for their commitment to enhancing the quality of life of the L.G.B.T.Q.+ community and extends best wishes for continued success,” the official proclamation rounds off with.
The FACE Awards will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 in Montrose. It is a free event to attend, and the community is invited to celebrate our heroes.
