The Investigation Into A Gay University of Houston Student Missing For More Than 11 Days Sheds No New Details.
(HOUSTON) — It’s been more than eleven days since An Vinh Nguyen, a 27-year old University of Houston student, and a member of the Houston LGBTQ+ community went missing. The mysterious disappearance has left family and community members in a state of shock.
Harris County Sherriff’s Department, the lead law enforcement agency investigating Nguyen’s disappearance, tells About News the case is a ‘priority,’ even though community and family members do not feel the same. Texas-based Equusearch, a missing person’s non-profit has joined the search.
Nguyen, a student at the Hilton School of Restaurant and Hotel Management at the University of Houston, was last seen on the evening of Friday March 31, 2017.
“He made us fish tacos,” Bobby Johnson, a friend and co-worker stated. “He left my home about 10:30 to work on a paper.” That was the last time Nguyen was seen. According to Johnson, Nguyen did not show up for work on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Ella Eye’s in Tomball, Texas.
The last call placed from Nguyen’s cell phone was to a man in Houston on business from New York. Calls and text messages to the phone from About News have gone unanswered.
Volunteers last week canvased the Montrose and Midtown area with missing person flyers hoping to gather any new information. Until Nguyen’s car is found, “We don’t know whether to go east, west, north, south or what,” Equusearch search operations director Frank Black said.
Nguyen’s orange 2016 four-door Jeep Renegade has not been located, and family say there has been no activity on his banking account or Harris County EZ tag pass since March 30, 2017.
Nguyen’s cell phone has been off since his disappearance. Sheriff’s official would not reveal if investigators had ‘pinged’ Nguyen’s last known location of his phone. Black said Nguyen has been described as “dependable” and that his phone is off, which is unusual. The car didn’t have a tracking device. “We’ve got a big concern,” he said.
Officials ask anyone with information about Nguyen’s whereabouts to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Texas EquuSearch at 281-309-9500.
