The Montrose neighborhood of Houston was littered with the sound of gunshots on Sunday afternoon, according to the Houston Police Department and several witnesses. The suspect, identified as Erick Michael Coonrod, 27, was wounded more than one time and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

HPD confirmed to news outlets that a responding officer shot an armed suspect on W. Alabama, near the intersection of Yoakum St. and Montrose Blvd.  Evidence markers placed by HPD, are seen on a grass area a sidewalk, and into a parking lot used for the University of St. Thomas.

A witness that lived near by described hearing the gun shots “like metal falling and hitting the road.”

A store clerk at the Chevron gas station  at the intersection of Montrose Blvd. and W. Alabama reported a male ‘came into the store and left with out paying for bottle of beer.’ No information has been released as if the two incidents are related.
